Faculty Experience

  • Instructor and co-coordinator of the Louisiana State Police Advanced Technical Accident Investigation Course Baton Rouge, Louisiana. (1983 through 1992)

  • Adjunct instructor for Northwestern University Traffic Institute

  • Taught an accident investigation course from March 12, to March 16, 1990 in Hilo, Hawaii and from March 19 to March 23, 1990 in Kona, Hawaii for the Hawaii Police Department.

  • Taught another accident investigation course as well as an advanced technical accident investigation course in Hilo, Hawaii in August of 1991 for the Hawaii Police Department.

 

Crash Reconstruction Related Experimentation

  • Conducted skid tests under controlled conditions for both automobiles and articulated vehicles in 1982, ‘83, ‘85, ‘90, ‘92, ‘93, ‘94, and ‘95.

  • Conceptualized, coordinated, and conducted skid tests on wet surfaces in 1985 in order to determine whether or not the coefficient of friction of vehicles sliding across wet surfaces is velocity dependent. A secondary consideration of the experimentation was to determine the reliability of Drag sled testing on wet surfaces. A paper has been written and published by T.A.R.O. as a result of these tests.

  • Conducted acceleration tests on large trucks in Laplace, Louisiana in 1986 in order to determine the average acceleration factor for vehicles of this type at distances of both 50 feet and 100 feet. The data base for this experiment consists of over 200 truck accelerations. S. A. E. paper # 950136 was written as a result of this testing.

  • Conducted tests to determine emergency stopping distances for New Orleans streetcars in June of 1987.

  • Received U.S. Patent #5,445,024 for an Automotive Motion Recorder on August 29, 1995.

  • Accredited By The Accreditation Commission For Traffic Accident Reconstruction (No. 352). Certification expires in February, 2022.

  • “Reconstructionist” Member of the National Association of Professional Accident Reconstruction Specialists, Inc.

  • Member grade membership in The Society of Automotive Engineers

  • Fatality Review Officer for Louisiana State Police Troop B (1992-1994)

  • Participated in the development of a Louisiana State Police Traffic Homicide Investigator program

  • Participated in the planning and implementation of the Louisiana State Police Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP).

  • Author of the Federal D.W.I. Project 408 Grant which focused on Louisiana Parishes having high numbers of alcohol related/high severity accidents. The resulting State Police task force was deployed in St. Charles Parish in 1985.
